A Great Place for Sports Fanatics & Families, too
When visiting South Padre Island it can definitely be difficult to find a place for lunch or dinner that isn't too packed, too pricey, or family friendly. If you are an avid SPI visitor, maybe you've seen this place on Port Isabel and wondered what it was, or maybe you're planning a little summer trip to the island and would love a great place to eat? Double Days has got ya'll covered! I've visited this place about 3 times and each time I find something new to love about it. The food is yummy, the service is stellar, the décor is super fun (all sports memorabilia), and this restaurant is perfect for a big family, a small gathering, or a cute little lunch date.
On the day where I visited (it was a Sunday), they had a few lunch specials, which are changed daily I believe. They welcome kiddos (they even eat free until 7 pm & have a kids arcade room.) I like this place because it is decorated head to toe with awesome sports memorabilia, from a boxing ring in the center of the restaurant where you can sit at a table, watch a game on one of their screens/tvs, and relax, to their floor painted like a football field, and roof like a cloudy sky. All over the restaurant there are cases and cases of interesting jerseys, signed pictures, banners, helmets, & anything else you can think of that's related to sports. Seriously, the owners of Double Days thought of everything to make our experience super unique and fun, even learning about the history of the name and location is super fun (info on the menu at the bottom of blog)
The order of Fried Mushrooms came with five mushrooms, three small and two large (I'm sure this varies each order). The mushrooms stuffing was made with crab and had an Italian style seasoning, which was different, but very good. I did add a bit of salt to my mushrooms, but I personally rather have to add salt on my own, then have something over seasoned on my plate. The price is a little on the steeper side, $8.99, but I would order again. They were delicious, different, and worth it. Along with mushrooms, they have appetizers such as Ceviche ($8.89), Shrimp Cocktail ($13.99), Chips & Salsa ($3.99), and a few others to choose from.
Not sure if you guys have noticed but I am a huge fan of shrimp tacos. They are relatively healthy and always full of flavor, and these were no exception. My friend ordered these tacos and she said they were really good and not even a bit greasy. I have also had them and I will say they are filling, and extremely flavorful. They start with maiz tortillas, add quite large grilled shrimp, top with cabbage & cilantro, and are accompanied with a side of chipotle sauce (probably sent straight from heaven.) Seriously these tacos are the perfect combo of fresh and tasty, and since Double Days is located right on the port, seafood is definitely something they know how to work with.

I will tell you guys right now that the portion of these quesadillas is nothing short from amazing. I ate one fourth of the quesadilla and felt super full. I shared another fourth, and still had half of the quesadilla to eat after my trip home. This dish had a side of pico de gallo, which was a bit spicy, but nothing too crazy, and in case you think it is too spicy, sour cream is also provided. Not only was the shrimp large, juicy, and well seasoned, the cheddar cheese was enough to cause any cheese fanatic to get excited. (Thinking of starting a Cheese Anonymous group. It's that bad!! lol) Seriously, that hunger after a long day at the beach is easily tamed by this dish.

Although these fries just look like regular fries, the batter on these babies is pretty great. Something special about these is that they have absolutely no salt on them and we also didn't feel the need to add any, because the flavor was already quite enjoyable. I usually have to dip my fries into ketchup and that was not necessary either. (although I will admit, I occasionally dipped them in that magical chipotle stuff from the shrimp tacos) The order of fries is large enough to share, which I did, and we were still not able to finish them.
When our very helpful waitress said they had a homemade hot fudge brownie, topped with vanilla ice cream, covered in whip cream, and chocolate sauce, I (kinda) wanted to hug her (I didn't, I promise. I didn't want to freak her our). This dessert was just what we needed after an extremely hot day in the sun. I promise there is a brownie under the heaps of whip and ice cream you see here. It was so great, and at $4.99, I will definitely be going back for some more of it.
Brownie Bowl- $4.99
I took many pictures of the patio at Double Days because I am just devastated that they have so much space and such great food, and no one was eating outside. Our waitress was more than happy to accommodate us on the patio, and we enjoyed our entire meal while feeling a great breeze and chatting it up with a few people coming in the door. As we were leaving, a few of my awesome friends took my advice and had dinner there, and their entire party was able to sit out there, with no problems. They have some plant life out there and of course, provide the perfect shade for a sunny. day.

The coolest thing about this place is definitely the amount of effort and time they have taken to fill their entire restaurant from head to toe with sports memorabilia, like I said previously. This a fantastic place to take dad for a nice lunch, (or mom, because ladies love sports too!) It's fantastic for a group, the entire family, a cute, fun date, or any casual occasion. I have never visited in the evening, so I am not sure how the night time crowd is, but I look forward to visiting soon.
From the historic name (actually, the entire location is pretty historic for baseball fans in general) to the amazing food, Double Days is certainly a place any food lover, sports enthusiast, or local business supporter should try and visit. It's a fun experience every time.
