Healthy & So Delicious
The valley can be a hard place to be health conscious, especially when eating at restaurants. Greens & Lemons is a place where delicious meets nutritious and I couldn't be more excited about it!! Located in Mission, Texas, in the Sharyland area, Greens & Lemons serves great (and super fresh) breakfast items, Mediterranean food, salads, Ceviche, smoothies, juices, sandwiches, vegan items, and really amazing food from different regions of Mexico. The atmosphere here seems really relaxed and the servers who took care of us were extremely friendly, very knowledgeable, and a pleasure to speak to. The combination of the cool music, the bright decor, and the delicious food makes Greens & Lemons a great addition to the RGV restaurant scene.
Drinks & Smoothies
The first thing I ordered was a Cucumber Lemonade. I won't lie, it was extremely tart, but nothing a little pure sugar couldn't fix. They also had a Pineapple Lemonade available. It's great to have the option of natural beverages over the regular soda options, (which are also available) along with coconut water, bottled water, and tea. I believe the naturally flavored water varies every day. I'm very interested in trying some of their other waters because I am a huge fan of delicious and fresh beverages.
Also available our shots (healthy ones, of course.) They have about four on their menu currently, along with their signature juices, and signature smoothies. The shot I chose was for immunity (because I get sick like it's a talent), which includes lemon, ginger, honey, cayenne pepper, and water. It was pretty easy to take and right after taking it, my sinus' started to clear up. The cayenne pepper really packed a punch, but the rest of the ingredients really helped mellow the shot out.
Other shots available are Antibiotic, Libid, and WakeUp. The menu for the smoothies, juices, and these shots can be found a the bottom of this page under menu.
Carpaccio is something I had always heard of, but never tried. It usually consists of raw meat, fish, or vegetables thinly sliced and seasoned. Greens & Lemons has three different kinds available for us. The one featured here is the Salmon Carpaccio, which consists of thinly sliced salmon, avocado, spicy mayo, topped with cilantro and sesame seeds, in a soy sauce. I loved this appetizer. The saltiness of the sauce went fantastically with the salmon and the avocado, and the cilantro really helped balance out this dish. The spicy mayo adds a little kick as well. Raul, my boyfriend, did not like this dish due to the texture, but I loved it. Also available are Carpaccios with beets or Portabello Mushrooms; these are $10.99.
These empanadas are the only thing I didn't love out of our entire meal. In their defense, I haven't liked many empanadas like these in the past. I feel the dough needed a little more seasoning and the meat lacked salt. The order comes with four empanadas, but since I just wanted to try them, we ordered the half order. They come with Greek yogurt for dipping.

Middle Eastern Sandwich
Raul ordered the Middle Eastern Sandwich, which included lamb, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives on a pita bread spread with hummus and Greek yogurt. The only complaint my boyfriend had was that he couldn't appreciate this sandwich as much due to the large amount of Greek yogurt in it which seemed to drown out the rest of the flavors. I took a bite and agreed, but I loved the combination of hummus with lamb. The lamb was well seasoned but I would recommend this to people who are looking for something light, yet tasty, but would definitely ask for the Greek yogurt on the side.
This pita comes with sweet potato fries and a small side of greens. The sweet potato fries are to die for! They are extremely crisp, tender on the inside, and are cooked perfectly. Bravo, Greens & Lemons! These fries are some of the best I've had in along time and I especially love how simple and pure these are.
The side salad that also comes with this sandwich is quite nice. It's a no fuss, just leafy greens type of side salad and I think its a great addition to the pita and the fries.
I love a place with some good fish tacos. This order of three tacos comes with a side of black beans and some jalapenos in vinegar. On this particular day, the fresh fish available was flounder. It was honestly quite tasty. I find that when fish is too "fishy," it can become a bit of a chore to eat in tacos, but this fish was ideally cooked. Also in these tacos are small pieces of crisp green apples, cabbage, and cilantro, all under a drizzle of spicy mayo. Adding green apples to these tacos was a genius move; I loved them.
The black beans were good, nothing too special, but I do know they are extremely healthy and a great source of fiber, antioxidants, and protein. Having the option of healthier sides is one of many reasons why I enjoyed these dishes.

For dessert I ordered a gluten free banana nut muffin (how I was still hungry is beyond me). This muffin was moist, sweet, nutty, and very impressive. I was informed they used oatmeal flour for this particular kind, and they also use almond flour for some of their other ones. I especially loved how many walnuts were in this muffin and the fact that even though it was sweet, it wasn't overpowering. Their muffin sizes are about the same as most bakeries and if no one had told me this was gluten free, I honestly wouldn't have noticed. Dessert items can be found under menu under the "Los Postres"
Inventive and exciting are definitely two words I would use to describe not only the menu at Greens & Lemons, but the entire restaurant. As you can probably tell by how much I raved about almost everything we ate, we will be heading back to this restaurant and cannot wait to explore all their amazing cuisine. If you are the kind of person who wants a great meal, but is also health conscious and adventurous, Greens & Lemons is the place for you. Its beautiful vibes made me feel right at home, while their many menu options made the foodie in me feel like a kid in a candy store. I sure hope you guys think about visiting, and although the prices aren't necessary a bargain, the quality is definetly at an all time high. Until next time my lovely foodie friends, remember to stay hungry!
