Mouthwatering & Amazing
Working in Palmview, Texas, my students are always excited to show me some of their favorite places to eat. One of my students told me I would love a little place located down the street from the high school where I work. Since my boyfriend loves hot dogs, we were really excited to try this burger/hot dog/"lots of other things" place.
When we arrived we found ourselves in a small, cozy establishment with a very comfortable atmosphere. At Los Compayitos, it's all about homemade goodies; from the food, to the building. Even the wooden furniture is handmade and very original. This restaurant first started as a little hot dog stand and thanks to the communities support, has grown quite a bit in the last few years.
Accustomed to chips and salsa, the beans and homemade chips were a nice change. I've personally never have been a fan of re-fried beans, but these were quite tasty. The homemade chips were very well seasoned and the texture was very crispy and airy. Homemade chips are hard to come by. it's nice to see a place who's going the extra mile for something as simple, yet tasty, as chips and beans.
The Glorious Hot Dogs
I'd like to let you guys know that my bf, a die-hard hot dog fan said after one bite, that this was the best hot dog he has ever had. I had to agree. This bacon wrapped hot dog comes with avocado, cheese, grilled onions, raw onions, "chile asado," tomato, mayo, mustard, and ketchup, all on top of a lightly toasted bun. These flavors, although very different, come together beautifully in each bite. I truly believe that nothing I say can prepare you for the amazing-ness that is this hot dog. At 1.99 per dog, or 5.49 for a combo, this is a STEAL! A delicious, delicious steal.
Just when we thought things couldn't get any better, The Regio was brought out, in all its glorious colors and aromas. The thing that makes this hot dog unique is the spicy, red sausage stuffed with yummy white cheese. It contains all the same ingredients The Original does, but with this perfectly cooked sausage that snaps every time you take a bite. The jalapenos weren't too spicy and with the help of the avocados, it was a very well balanced flavor. The dog alone will run you 2.99 and with the combo, you're looking at around 6.25. I think the combo is well worth it, the fries are crispy, well seasoned, and not too starchy. The Regio is unique dog for hot dog aficionados or newbies alike.
This burger combo at Los Compayitos comes out to around 7.99. A little pricier than the hot dog combo, this particular one has avocado, bacon, grilled onion, raw onion, white & yellow cheese, "chile asado," egg, ham, mustard, and ketchup. The meat is perfectly seasoned and the combination of the toppings, the veggies (romaine & juicy tomato) and the meat is just a match made in heaven. The sesame seeds on the bun really add texture and an unexpected flavor to an already great burger.
- The orange sauce on the left is the spiciest sauce of them all- Habanero Sauce. Extremely spicy, smokey, yet savory; This is a sauce for people who are not afraid of heat. This sauce is not a joke people!!
- The green middle sauce is the Tomatillo Sauce. Extremely tasty, mellow, and with a nice punch of the green tomatillo, this sauce is extemely simple, yet has a very well rounded flavor.
- The sauce on the right is nothing like we've ever tasted before. This sauce made from "chile de arbol" was both spicy & sweet, had a resemblance to cucumber, and tasted extremely fresh.
Los Compayitos is a small business with lots of charisma and great for a casual experience. The service when we visited was great. The place was calm and extremely clean. Although it was our first time, we felt very comfortable and I hope to be back soon. This is definitely a business worth supporting.
