Adorable Meets Delectable
It's quaint. It's cute. It's delectable. You might recognize Lunchbox on 10th Street from a little (very successful) restaurant called Bistro M from a few years back, or more recently, the McAllen Culinary Academy. The story of Chef Marcel, his lovely wife, & their attempts to bring amazing cuisine to the valley, whilst dealing with his wife's breast cancer diagnosis is a story well worth telling on its own. It's a story of triumph & perseverance, passion, & family, but most of all, supurb food with a great heart! It's with great excitement that I get to share with you the food of Lunchbox on 10th in hopes that you will pay them a visit, & help support local superstars.
Lets Start with Soup!
Butternut Squash Goodness
Curry Apple Soup
This Curry Green Apple soup is the other soup on the regular menu & is just as amazing! The contrast of the delicious crisp apples with the heat of the spiced curry is a match made in foodie heaven. As soon as my friend took a spoonful of this creamy goodness, her eyes lit up! The combination & the execution of this soup are top notch. I haven't found many places in the RGV that make their soups from scratch (many places just heat up frozen or powdered ingredients for us), so I appreciate this artform in its entirity.
Soup - 8.50
Since the Mcallen Culinary Academy holds classes weekly on a huge variety of things (like bread making), it's so very cool to know that cuisine from all over the world is available, not only on the menu, but also for us to learn how to make ourselves. I will be posting the link to their website on the bottom of the page, if you're interested in taking classes with them, as I hope one day I can as well! I thought i'd throw that in here because we all should really take advantage of these classes!
The interior Mexican cuisine at LB on 10th is without a doubt, impeccable. I spent many summers and weekends in many parts of Mexico throughout my life & I'm (kinda) a self proclaimed Mexican food snob. These here Tostadas are top notch! The ground beef is sauteed to perfection (sometimes I think people over salt meat & it can be a real bummer) Topped with fresh tomato, avocado, cilantro, "queso fresco",& fresh "crema," these babies are over the top flavorful with an air of effortlessness. 10 out of 10 would eat again! (& again & again & AGAIN!)
White Lasagna aka My Weakness
As much as I'd like to say we loved the Pad Thai, it just wasn't a favorite for any of us visiting that day. I'd say we are quite picky with our asian cuisine, so maybe we were just expecting something else. Of course, different people have different palates, so I always say, dont let opinions, especially mine, stop you from trying new & exciting things/dishes like this one.
Not pictured, but worth an honorable mention is their rich chocolate mousse that I love & adore! You really cant go wrong when visiting this establishment & trying any of their in house made desserts (FYI- lots of your favorite restaurants, unless specified otherways, have their desserts made in large factories/bakeries, & just shipped on over, so I urge you to try to find places like this, that really care for ALL their dishes immensly)
Why Lunchbox on 10th?
Lately I've been invited to blog about lots of things & situations that just dont keep with the standard of the places that I think we, as a community, should be focusing on & supporting, but Lunchbox is different. Not only does Chef Marcel keep quality in mind, but he has also hired the right people to keep that quality intact day in & day out. I love the enthusiasm for each and every dish, the attention to detail, & the genuine friendlyness that I feel well I visit. (I'm talking about you INES!!)
Although only open from 10 am to 2 pm (get it, its only open for lunch!), Lunchbox on 10th is a great place to take friends, family, business partners, or really any foodie thats looking to switch their lunch up, once in a while. Quality, mindfulness, a sense of family, & just really good food; Lunchbox on 10th is a treat for all & in supporting it, you're supporting the culture thats helping the RGV grow, each & every day.
Have a great day & don't forget to support local!!- Seems, The RGV Foodster
