Amazing People Doing Amazing things- All things local!
I can never forget about our RGV foodsters, so I have also added information on a few food trucks located across the street from the mini-festival at the end of this blog. The food truck park has never felt more alive than it does on this occasion. I hope you enjoy reading about my new friends at the Art Walk & feel inspired to take yourself on a little local journey tonight (November 6), from 6 -10 pm.
Our first little lady has the talent many would envy, but she dedicates herself to teaching others to express their creativity at Alebrije Creative Workshop. She uses & teaches people to use mixed media techniques including soft pastels, acrylic, watercolors, & crayons to ultimately have people find their inner peace. (ugh, isn't she the coolest!!?) She offers group & individual classes for kids (6 &up), teens,& adults. She mentioned that your first class with her is always free! (WHERE DO I SIGN UP??)
To add to her amazing talent, she's got an amazing personality to match (she also mentioned she reads the RGV Foodster from time to time.. MAJOR POINTS). It was awesome running into her & learning all the things she does & I hope you feel motivated to contact her for your next party, work gathering, family holiday celebration, or just when you need a little time to create something beautiful yourself. ;)

Hearing Elvias triumphant story almost brought tears to my eyes (I know that sounds dramatic, but im just a very emotional person!) After working at a near by Walmart for 30 years, Elvia decided to pursue her career in recycled material crafts full time. She enthusiastically told me she dedicates herself to her grandkids during the week and works her mobile shop full time on the weekends. (HURRAY! Shes been doing this for 4 years!) Her many adorable crafts include handmade satchels, purses, headbands, and jewelry at extremely affordable prices. (My colorful satchel with decorative flowers was only $5! Its the very stylish blue one in this slideshow.)
I might be a bit biased about Lucia and her adorable merchandise because I honestly feel she is my fashion soulmate! Her quirky-stylish and vintage prints make for the cuttest accesories I have ever laid eyes on. From cuddly tiny pillows, adorable bibs, fun Little baggies (perfect for makeup bags to clutches), purses, and my personal favorite quirky headbands that look like bandanas, Lucias table was the hardest one to pick from. (I probably spent a good 25 minutes deciding what to buy and left with one of everything)
She has been going at this for a year and a half, and had her baby right by her side, which was undeniably her biggest motivation. It was lovely to see a beautiful mom working hard for herself, teaching us that all it takes is a dream and some creativity to make dreams come true.
She can be found at the Mcallen Art Walk, as well as Alfresco in Weslaco, Music and Art Festival on the Street, which takes place every 3rd Thursday of the month, (someone correct me if im wrong) She can also be found on FB at https://www.facebook.com/lugu.art !!

Nectar Avenue- Mobile Juice Bar
For Healthy Eating on the Go
I will admit that when I think food truck park, I don't always think healthy. Fortunately for us, Nectar Avenue-Mobile Juice Bar has its fill of scrumptious food that nurtures us while also satisfying our bellies. Fruit bowls, wraps, smoothies, juices & other healthy food is available for us with the healthiest of ingredients.
I tried the Malibu Kiss Smoothie & I cannot tell you enough how much I loved it. I drank it so fast, I forgot to take a picture of it!! This smoothie included fresh pineapple juice, sweet vanilla, lemon, & my favorite coconut water. It was refreshing, filling, & most importantly GOOD!! If you like Pina coladas (insert Jimmy Buffet song here), this is the smoothie for you. On my next trip I am definitely trying the Bagel+spread+fruit. Its pretty great to have options like this in a community where health is usually not a priority to some.
When I asked the owner (the young man in the slide show) what the best thing about this food truck was he mentioned that being able to help people meet their goals & change their life style was the best part of his job. That ladies & gentlemen, is a man I feel great supporting. So the next time you're in the area(hopefully tonight for artwalk) or if you've been meaning to begin a cleaner food journey make sure to pay Nectar Avenue a visit. It really is where delicious meets nutritious.
La Caravane- Skewers & More!
Another great food choice when visiting the park is La Caravane. Although I do believe they are a little pricey, the quality and flavor of their skewers is always great. The variety of meats available are sirloin steak, chicken, shrimp, or a combination of the three (called the Caravane skewer). The combo comes with a yummy side of fries & a really tasty chipotle sauce. I will say that the combo used to come with a drink, but the time I paid them a visit, the girl let me know after I paid that they had removed the drink. So although I love the taste of their food (& truly back up their flavors), I find myself with mixed feelings about their prices(I paid $16 for two skewers & fries) & how they dealt with the change of the menu, especially since visit them quite often.
